"How was that
betzenbaum, coach?" Paul enjoyed his Great-Grandpa Schweitzer, who coached him in doing somersaults and introduced us to yummy
kuchen! Hooray for German heritage! Unfortunately, the pictures of Great-Great Aunt Lu and Great-Great Uncle Edwin didn't turn out.

Anthony's Uncle Darryl brought out the performer in Paul, too!

The boys love their Great Uncle Darryl as much as he loves them!

It turns out that Anthony's Grandma Frieda actually taught in this one-room schoolhouse!

It is not only unbelievable how small the boys look next to this buffalo, but how far we could see across the plains! North Dakota is truly beautiful (at least in August!)

It was so great that Joletta and Doug met up with us to have great family time with Anthony's extended family like Grandma Joan and Grandpa Elmer!

Yes, that white animal IS a baby buffalo! It is an albino, a sign of peace to Native Americans.

In Gackle, ND we got to see Anthony's Great Aunt Lenora, who is WORKING at the nursing home! Of course, one of the residents got out the mugabatcha (flyswatter) for us. I was amazed and impressed by the town of Gackle, where there is no grocery store, 7 churches, and several ladies sell kuchen from their homes! In an effort to be similarly less dependent upon our numerous, handy, grocery stores, I have been motivated to try and preserve produce from our garden.

The furthest west we went was to
Streeter, ND, to see Joletta's Aunt Esther, Aunt Mary Ann and Uncle Art. I can honestly say that it was well worth the
trek to see them!

What a treat for the boys and me to get to meet Joletta's cousin Nettie and Sarge!
